OCEANFRONT

VILLA

A well know builder of many housing developments in the San Luis Obispo area of California, this client embarked on a very extensive remodel of his personal home that may well be conisdered his MAGNUM OPUS.

At the bequest of the owner, the more modest guest houses at San Simeon (The Hearst Castle) were used as inspiration to Leonard Temes Design who brought historically inspired detailing to the exterior and interior of this Central Coast California luxury ocean front retreat.

Many custom details were created for this project,  from the hand carved frieze insets and the custom carved stone fireplace in the living room, to the  many exquisitely appointed pieces of custom furnishings.

One can't help but notice the attention to detail when entering though the portico with carved beamed ceilings and inlaid painting that carries into the entry hall.

The white walls in the living room, and throughout the house act as a gallery backdrop to the owner's distinguished collection of California Plein Air landscape paintings. The Medici settee serves as the perfect piece to separate the living room from the entry hall, as the carved details can be seen from all sides. There are many other hand carved elements, including the corbels with dusted gold accents that extend into the living room beams. A pair of 18 karat gold antique reproduction chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Antique reporduction white gold leaf torcheres flank the stone archways leading to auxilliary spaces at opposite ends of the house. The majestic ocean views are framed by a Serliano stone window frame, incorporating twisted doric columns, a motif that repeates throughout the house.

The octagoal coffered ceiling in the dining room, with gold leafing, carved mouldings and fresco like painting was inspired by the ceiling of the Beverly HiIls City Hall. A large crystal and iron chandelier centers on the dining table.

The master suite and guest bedroom, feature hand made custom bedding and accessories, as well as custom designed area rugs.

As one exits the house onto the ocean side patio, complete with a built-in seating area, fire pit, and outdoor bar, a final crescendo is sounded by a blue and white cabana with a Moroccan chandlier creating an outdoor living room, and framing the ever present magnificent ocean views.
